Bossier Schools Responds to Creepy Clown Posts

In light of the multiple social media posts claiming that creepy ‘clowns’ will be threatening schools throughout Louisiana, and the recent arrest of a Bossier Parish student allegedly making such threats, Bossier Schools Superintendent Scott Smith is taking a hard stance to put a stop to this activity.

Law enforcement and school administration are vigilantly monitoring all Bossier Parish campuses for any activity that raises concern. Heightened security efforts have been put into place to ensure the safety of students and employees.

Assemblies are also being held, and informational videos being broadcast, at every Bossier Parish high school to emphasize to students the serious repercussions associated with participating in this activity. Making terroristic threats is a felony and can affect an individual’s ability to join the military, being offered scholarships or receiving federal financial aid to attend college.

Parents are asked to please be particularly mindful of their children’s social media accounts, posts and profile photos that may include a person dressed as a clown. Posts mentioning violent acts and threats are considered crimes. Equally important is for parents to talk with their children about the dangers of sharing posts they may see, causing undue fear via social media. It only perpetuates rumors and hype.

Masks of any kind are not only prohibited on school campuses, but Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington warns it is against the law to wear masks, hoods or facial disguises of any kind in public places, with the exception of Halloween or Mardi Gras.

Bossier Schools makes safety a top priority and appreciates your partnership. By having this important conversation with your child, and communicating any suspicious activity to law enforcement, we hope to curtail the creepy clown craze and focus on education.
